Happy 4th of July

We had a great 4th. Sara and her kids spent the weekend with us. We actually got a special parking pass to park up at Mt. Rushmore and see the fireworks on the 3rd.

What's so cool about a parking pass is that they only hand out a few and they are numbered. You get to park at the monument and you don't have to get there until 6:30pm. (you don't have to hike the hill and you don't have to get up there in the wee hours of the day to get a spot close to the monument) So off we went... the crowds were plentiful and we were feeling quite lucky that we had a numbered pass especially as we watched all of the people hike that huge hill up to the monument.

Alas, when we finally made it to the monument (1/2 hour of stop and go traffic) we were directed to a line of cars waiting to enter our parking area. When all of the sudden they started directing cars away from the parking area. WHAT WAS HAPPENING??? Well.. I guess they didn't park the cars as tightly as they should have and the parking area was full. REALLY??? Well, since we were really unprepared for the hike and time was getting short we asked the kids if they were opposed to driving back into town for a movie. They agreed and off we went to Ice Age 3. Hey, when life gives you lemons you make lemonade.

We did get to watch the fireworks at the downtown Heritage Festival on July 4th. We ended up having a really great time. They even had kayaking for $5.00 a person... Nathan, TJ and Triniti... took the opportunity to try their hand at Kayaking. I think over all it was a very memorable day. So happy birthday day America. A huge thanks to our forefathers who saw the benifits of our freedom and set in motion a way to insure that we would have it.

Enjoy the pictures and video.
